Races and Classes
The world of Thargos is inhabited by numerous races and species, but there are dominant groups, those who have managed to impose their number and their civilisation upon other groups. For the player, the races that can be chosen are the most evolved, those that have reached a degree of civilisation comparable to that of the Middle Ages of our history.
Please bear in mind however that certain aspects of the game universe are very different from this era, and are heavily influenced by fantasy and mythology. Each race has it own culture and past. All the races present have varying levels of interaction and it is highly recommended for players to take this into consideration when playing this game.
A brief presentation of each race is presented below. This description should permit each player to situate themselves in the context of the game in relation to their environment and other races. Full descriptions are provided in the Core Book.
The geographic distribution of races is particularly complex if one takes into consideration the numerous wars and invasions that have taken place in this world. Certain regions are dominated by the Condorians, like most of the large cities of the North for example. Other races have their own areas of influence in different regions. In order to simplify the general grouping of races the following can be noted:- Elves dominate woodland areas, Dwarves control most of the mountain ranges, Humans dominate plains and coastal areas, and Dergs can be found in the highest mountain ranges.
Many centuries ago, refugees from the Great War fled the Continent and established settlements on distant shores. A few centuries ago, their kin returned to the Continent and established their new cities after the downfall of the Thargians (see Chapter 9).
The diagram above outlines the main areas these races have occupied. The Dergs never left the Continent and although their numbers dwindled at the beginning of the Great War, they have now returned in force in most mountain ranges. There are also a series of other races that can be played which will be developed in future releases or have been covered in other source books: Badaraks, Haroads*, Thargians*, Centaurs, Rlisha (Dusk Elves) etc.
*A brief presentation of these races is offered in Chapter 7 of the Core Book.

List of Races
This list introduces the characteristics of each race and indicates which professions they are likely to occupy. Both genders have been illustrated in order to give players an idea of appearance.
The descriptions in the Core Book offer the players a chance to understand the level of interaction between different characters and enjoy a far richer gaming experience. Almost all player Races from the Sourcebook are descendants from Thargian breeding doctrines, in that they have been created in order to fulfil a role within their society. Only the Valley Elves have evolved independently from the other races.
As players will discover, the "classic" fantasy races such as Elves and Dwarves have different backgrounds to the usual stereotypes. These generic denominations enable participants to situate their character, then branch-out and "do their own thing" to some extent through the development of their background. As most of the races that can be played are in fact all derived from each other this allows for more intricate relationships among races to be developed, as they all have a common origin and were for the most part, slaves in the Thargian world and allies in battle against their oppressors. What is of particular note is that after the Great War, most Elves and Dwarves left the Continent to found their own territories. The Humans "inherited" the ruins of the Thargian Empire, which explains many of the problems of civil war today (see Chapter 9 of the Core Book).
Since the Great Cataclysm, the other distant shores have become very much "out of bounds" for your average individual, as they are terrified to loose sight of the shore of the Continent. There is definitely mass thalassophobia amongst inhabitants of the Continent (see History Chapter 9 of the Core Book)
